1st Snow

It's been snowing since yesterday afternoon now and for the 1st time I can remember we are behaving like the Brits. Panic, traffic jams, car crashes, hoarding. Europe is growing together after all! No school closures announced though...

Another thing that makes my day: "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" is back on air. You can listen live on Radio 4 Mondays, 18:30 or anytime online here.

A little surprise coming up on 1st December... Posted by Picasa

Things that make my day - Duncan Fulton

I remember first listening to Duncan when I was still in school. I used to stand and listen for ages while he was playing anything from Dylan to The Eagles as well as songs he has written himself. It was nice to see that Duncan is still playing and a day is a good day when I hear him through my office window. It makes me leave the office to get a coffee from Starbucks and stand and listen for a couple of songs.

Duncan is also into golf and a clip of him explaining the art can be found herePosted by Picasa

What it says about me below is quite close to the mark. But what elitist are you?

You speak eloquently and have seemingly read every
book ever published. You are a fountain of
endless (sometimes useless) knowledge, and
never fail to impress at a party.
What people love: You can answer almost any
question people ask, and have thus been
nicknamed Jeeves.
What people hate: You constantly correct their
grammar and insult their paperbacks.

Autumnal Mülheim

I thought I'd treat you to a picture of Mülheim in the autumn sunshine. Hope you are enjoying similarly good weather. This picture is taken close to the river Ruhr which gave the whole region its name. Christmas market season is about to begin. The markets are being erected in Essen at the moment and a hint of Glühwein is already in the air. Picture to follow. Have a good start of the week and keep in touch! Posted by Picasa

Annette's Birthday Do

Exactly three months after her birthday we had Annette's do yesterday. We didn't get round to it at the time with the wedding and all. A good time was had by all even without a bonfire or crackers. Posted by Picasa

30 October 2005

We went to one of our favourite German cities today, Münster. It's a lovely city with loads of old houses (as you can see), a wonderful cathedral and plenty of good shops. We enjoyed the autumnal sunshine and have already done some of our Christmas Shopping. Unbelievable, considering that I would normally do this on 24 December...

A lot of people have kept asking for some more wedding pics (haven't they Jill?). You can now find them here.

For those of you who like Paris I have also uploaded some of our Paris pictures here.

Instead of a postcard...

... this picture. It's even more tacky than the commercially available ones.

We've just come back from Paris and because a certain boy I know is fascinated by the Eiffel Tower I am posting this picture. We're properly shattered now after six days of sight-seeing, visiting museums and desperately trying to communicate in French. Just to rub it in, Piers, yes we did go on the tower! (Shortly after it was evacuated because of a bomb scare... )

PS: Currently I'm absolutely fascinated by the following little gadget:
  • Konfabulator.

    Bye Bye Bochum!

Well after exactly a year at the RUB (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) I am leaving this place of knowledge and learning on 15 October to start my job at the Adulty Education Centre in Essen. I will be working as a subject area manager for foreign languages there(English, Arab, Turkish, Croat, Greek, Russian, etc).

I have had a fantastic time at the university but the temporary nature of my employment forced me to look elsewhere to secure my professional future.

I will let you know how I get on at the adult education centre in Essen.

Just did the test below and here's my result:

    You Should Learn French

C'est super! You appreciate the finer things in life... wine, art, cheese, love affairs.
You are definitely a Parisian at heart. You just need your tongue to catch up...

Quite fitting considering that we are going to Paris on our honey moon. I can't wait to go there again. I loved the city when Annette and I went in August 2003 (you know, that hot summer...). Can anybody recommend anything "off the beaten track", anything that you enjoyed when you went? Let me know. Have a good start to the week.
